Rebecca Medina joins Forsan ISD for a new school year.

About one year ago, Rebecca Medina was introduced to the Forsan Independent School District. Before she arrived here, she had worked in all sorts of different places, ranging from the bustling metropolitan area of Dallas to small towns like Stanton and Coahoma, Texas.

“Forsan is the best district I’ve worked in,” said Mrs. Medina.

That’s not to say that challenges weren’t thrown at her. She considers her first year working for Forsan to be a learning curve.

“I had a lot thrown at me that I’ve never done before,” Medina said, “but I jumped in there and figured it out.”

Mrs. Medina's main job is dealing with the students. From comfort to disciplinary actions, she is here to support the students, who are in fact, her favorite thing about Forsan.

Rebecca Medina did not begin her career as an administrator. She spent fifteen years in the classroom and eventually began to show interest in an administrative role when she discovered that there were things she didn’t have the power to change as merely a teacher. Fortunately, becoming an administrator is how she ended up in the Forsan school district.

Mrs. Medina showed interest in being an educator as a young child, even creating worksheets at the young age of six. And, although she knew that from a young age she wanted to be a teacher, she had teachers along the way that helped solidify her career choice.

“I wanted to be able to influence kids the way that they influenced me,” Medina said.

While it might be hard to picture it, Mrs. Medina has a life outside of school. She enjoys going to concerts, watching movies, and travelling with her husband.

This year, Mrs. Rebecca Medina hopes that our school can continue the climate and culture shift that begun last year.

“We want everyone to feel accepted; we want everyone to feel like they have a friend.”

She wants the students to be able to trust the staff and trust that they are doing everything for the students’ best interest.

All of the 2018 homecoming court were very surprised to learn they’d been nominated this year.

“I didn’t even know they’d voted.” Said sophomore Sara Tarbet. “It was a pleasant surprise.” Tatum Miller felt the same way. “I kind of thought it would be other girls this year, but I’m excited.” Said Miller.

Even though all of the girls were surprised, they were very excited to be a part of the festivities. While some of the students are new to the tradition like freshman Gabby Gonzales, who said she is excited to dress up and represent her class. Others like senior Macey Evans have been looking forward to participating for years.

“I’ve looked up to all of the other homecoming courts since I was little.” Said Evans. “Go Buffies!”

Most of the girls were looking forward to picking out their gowns, and dressing up. Senior Jaidyn Brown was looking forward to looking at all of the different outfits. “I can’t wait to see how pretty everyone looks!” said Brown.

Mallory Ezell the junior class duchess predicted Tatum Miller winning the crown.

“I think Tatum will win.” Said Ezell. “She’s had a good run as being duchess over the past years. She is also very kind to everyone, and will represent the senior class very well.”
